I have had a crazy and busy, but great summer. I wanted to catch up on a few blog items clogging up the file, so here goes…
Miley Cyrus just accomplished a remarkable feat a few days ago, getting both conservatives and liberals alike to bash her obscene and pointless foam finger routine at the VMA’s. There is a sense today that all restraint has been cast off. I wonder if even the “progressives” in the culture will really like where this takes America. After all, they get to raise children here too. Learning how to disconnect the cable TV and distance from the laptop may be crucial for the upcoming generation. Well, we would still have those pesky smartphones to worry about.
Speaking of TV, how about some good news? Duck Dynasty is BLOWING UP! Everywhere I turn it is Duck Dynasty t shirts, and TV appearances and stories about what they are doing and saying. I love to see some good, wholesome redneck boys from my old stomping grounds making it big. Prayer, family, faith, and long beards… and America actually wants to watch it…. yes. Wrap your finger around that, Miley Cyrus. We need to pray for those folks as they are under intense pressure and scrutiny as fame always brings. May their faith stand firm.
We appear to be headed to war with Syria, or at least what passes for war these days, meaning drones and Cruise Missiles dropping on laser and GPS guided strategic targets around Syria. We are going to punish those ruthless Syrian leaders for apparently “poison gasing” some of their own citizens, so we can then turn the government over to those ruthless sunni rebels who are currently murdering and expelling any minority religious group in their path, some 80,000 Christians included. The area called Aram mostly in the OT waged constant war against Israel’s kings, and of course, early Christian history changed when Paul had a Damascus Road encounter. The area has been and will be a hornet’s nest of violence, regardless. I am praying that through these horrible events a crack in the door for the Gospel will emerge in Syria. Many Christians live in Syria and rumors have been hot and heavy that an entire Christian village called al-Duvair was slaughtered by what are essentially U.S. backed sunni rebels imposing sharia law as they go. One wonders what “winning” in Syria will look like for the U.S. and for Christians. It will probably look something like what happened in Egypt where the Coptic Christian population has become the punching bag for the Islamists, who won elected power, then were kicked out by the military for being worse than Mubarak, and are now looking for someone to blame for their failed policies.
It is a great time to remember the words of Jesus in Matthew 24, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.”
And you shall know the truth
