Ministry Volunteer Needs

"As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace:"
– 1 Peter 4:10

MissionApex

VAN DRIVERS AND A SECOND ADULT NEEDED TO TRANSPORT RESIDENTS from West Haven Apartments to Salem’s worship services on the first Sundays of each month and for children/youth to attend church activities. On June 5th, at 2:00 in the Fellowship Hall, there will be a training session for the van drivers and a short orientation of the behavior expectations of the children while on the van. Forms for van drivers and background checks will be available on June 2. Prior to Covid, the children and teens enjoyed coming on Wednesday nights for Children’s Mission and Youth groups. If you are looking for a way to get involved in a ministry at Salem, please contact Debbie Barnes @ dmbarnes612@gmail.com so that Salem can be an arm and leg to spread God’s Word and love in Apex, NC.

Welcoming Team

THE GOAL OF OUR WELCOMING TEAM IS TO ENSURE THAT EACH PERSON WHO WALKS IN THE DOORS OF SALEM BAPTIST CHURCH FEELS WELCOMED AND KNOWN in order that they might experience the grace of Jesus. The more welcomed people feel, the more likely they are to return. The more someone returns the more opportunities they have to hear the gospel and develop relationships with other believers within our church. This team is more than a group of friendly waves as people walk in the door, but a team of servants who humbly treat others as more important than themselves. Our welcome team consists of two groups: the greeters and the ushers.

The greeters are the frontlines of ministry at Salem Baptist Church. They stand prayerfully ready at each door to welcome each person who might come. If you are a greeter then you are likely the first person a guest will meet as they visit Salem and we all know how important first impressions are. Your interaction with the visitor should not only say “We were expecting you” but also “We want you here.”

If the greeters are the frontlines, then the ushers are the second line of defense against a visitor having a bad experience. The ushers welcome you into worship and help you find a seat. This warm welcome could dispel a bad experience they might have getting from the door to the worship center. The ushers also have the chance to serve during the service and after as the congregation leaves worship, meaning you might be the last person they see as a visitor rushes out the door. Your interaction with the visitors can help them enter into worship joyfully and leave knowing we would love to see them again.

Kids Ministry

CHILDREN’S COMMITTEE IS CURRENTLY SEEKING VOLUNTEERS on a consistent basis (every Sunday) for the 9:40am BFG hour starting June 6th. We need volunteers for bed babies & crawlers and walkers during the 9:30am hour.

We also are in need of many volunteers for the Wee Worship hour at 11:00am starting June 6 for Bed Babies, crawlers and walkers, 2-3 yr. olds, 4-5 yr olds, and 2 volunteer helpers every Sunday for Kids’ Worship.

Between now and June 6, we are in need of volunteers to cover the 11 o’clock hour for bed babies, crawlers and walkers, and Kids’ Worship helpers.

If you are interested in working the Check-In Desk at the nursery area, we need a volunteer (preferably 2 so that one can relieve a teacher if need be) to remain at the desk for the entirety of the service.

Student Ministry

THE GOAL OF SALEM STUDENT MINISTRY IS TO MAKE STUDENT DISCIPLES OF CHRIST who are fully devoted followers of Jesus by equipping them to depend on the grace of God daily, and declare the Gospel to the world around them. All students who are in grades 6-8 (middle school) or grades 9-12 (high school) are welcome to grow with us at Salem.

Our youth leaders are a vital aspect of meeting this goal. Generally there are three primary ways that leaders can be involved in Student Ministry: relationally, logistically, and spiritually. There is usually overlap between those three categories but it is a helpful way to think through your role if you join us in this ministry.

Relational leaders model the gospel to students by spending time getting to know the students and building relationships with them. Relationships are the biggest platform we have and every student is different. This means we need a diverse group of leaders who are patient, consistent, and can relate well to students. You’ll often find the relational leaders at youth each week, jumping on the vans to head with us to camp, or meeting one on one with a student they disciple.

Logistical leaders are often the behind-the-scenes heroes of the ministry. They are selfless, willing and reliable people who do the tasks that keep the ministry going but often never gets the credit. They help gather and organize snacks for D-Now, haul a trailer of luggage to camp, decorate for events, etc.

Lastly, there is the spiritual leader. A great example of a spiritual leader are our prayer warriors. Maybe you don’t have the time or energy to spend a week at camp or to “keep up” with the students, but you can still have a huge impact on our ministry by praying for the students, the trips, and the leaders.

PRecious Jewels Ministry

HOW FAR DO YOU HAVE TO TRAVEL TO DO BE ON MISSION FOR GOD? Great News! We have a mission field ripe for the harvest here, in the shadow of our church’s steeple and you may have never even been aware of this rewarding opportunity.

It’s our Precious Jewels program where our children, teens and young adults with special needs and abilities are on Sunday mornings. We are looking for loving hearts to join us in hanging out, working with and enjoying time with our Precious Jewels while their parents are in service.

What would your time look like? You could be doing puzzles with a child, making a craft, reading a book, bouncing a ball, blowing bubbles or sometimes just hanging out if that’s what your PJ feels like doing. We will provide all training and get you acclimated to the scene, no worries.

It’s a beautiful way to spend time with the special gems and you will always come away knowing that you were in the right place, serving the Lord!

Media Team

THE AVL (AUDIO-VISUAL-LIGHTING) MINISTRY IS AN INTEGRAL PART OF EVERY SUNDAY MORNING SERVICE. Individuals serving in this ministry often go relatively unnoticed, but the benefits of their service extend to everyone who attends worship services at Salem.

You may not think you have the skills or the education to serve in AVL, but that is not true. Existing AVL team members could not be more excited to teach you everything you would need to know, even if you don’t have any background experience.

Current AVL needs include:
Audio Technicians: Responsible for mixing the audio heard during Sunday morning services, live-stream services, and special events in the MPR and the chapel.

Projectionists: Responsible for advancing lyrics, sermon slides, and playing videos projected on the screens and in the live-stream during service.
